People Ruled by Thirst are like Snared Rabbits!
The Buddha narrowed his eyes, staring at a small miserable piglet as it squealed for scraps.
He said:
“When the root is undamaged and left intact, even if the tree is cut down, it grows again. So too, when the basic tendency toward craving is not uprooted, suffering arises again and again.
With thirty-six channels strongly flowing toward pleasant experiences, wrong view is carried away by thoughts of desire.
Wherever these channels flow, a creeper vine springs up and stays. Seeing that creeper vine has arisen, cut its root with wisdom.
The channels are greased with pleasure, pleasing sensations arise for them. Delighting in pleasure, chasing satisfaction, they proceed from birth to old age.
Those led by craving wander about like snared rabbits; bound by their attachment, they meet suffering again and again for a long time.
Those led by craving wander about like snared rabbits; therefore, craving should be cast off, if one wants dispassion for themselves.”
